She doesn’t want to end up with some man she doesn’t know. Lots of girls in the kingdom are excited to go to the ball, but Sophia is dreading it. That might make you wonder how this story has anything to do with Cinderella, but JUST YOU WAIT. This fresh take on a classic story will make readers question the tales they’ve been told, and root for girls to break down the constructs of the world around them.Ĭinderella has been dead for 200 years. Together they vow to bring down the king once and for all–and in the process, they learn that there’s more to Cinderella’s story than they ever knew. There, she meets Constance, the last known descendant of Cinderella and her step sisters. At the ball, Sophia makes the desperate decision to flee, and finds herself hiding in Cinderella’s mausoleum. Sixteen-year-old Sophia would much rather marry Erin, her childhood best friend, than parade in front of suitors. If a suitable match is not found, the girls not chosen are never heard from again. Teen girls are now required to appear at the Annual Ball, where the men of the kingdom select wives based on a girl’s display of finery. It’s 200 years after Cinderella found her prince, but the fairy tale is over. Just know I don’t often pre-order books that I get ARCS of, but I immediately pre-ordered this. Like…you think you know the Cinderella story or what you might expect from a Cinderella retelling, but with Cinderella is Dead…YOU HAVE NO IDEA! I can’t even say everything because spoilers, but let’s go to the review. I don’t think I will ever be over how amazing this book is.
